Staring Your Own Shirt Business

By Natasha Rodgriguez Ingman

So, you have some shirts ideas on designs for cool tees. Maybe you have some hilariously clever lines to make funny shirts with. If you've ever said to yourself "that'd make a great shirt" then it might be a good idea to go do something about it. The good news is that it isn't very hard to start your own shirt business if you know what to keep in mind and what you'll need.

The online t-shirt business has exploded as of late with companies like Threadless, Busted Tees, and Design by Humans achieving tremendous success with crowdsourced designs. On top of that are the thousands of other sites also selling t-shirts with creative designs, but don't let that discourage you from starting your own. Just because you can't have the whole pie doesn't mean you can't have a piece of it, and fortunately a piece is all you really need.

The first and most important thing to have when starting your own t-shirt business, or any business for that matter, is passion. This isn't exactly a necessity for success, but being passionate about design can help you get through the rougher spots of running a business.

The next thing to keep in mind is that you can't approach this with a "get-rich-quick" attitude. If you think that the business is just about slapping a design onto a shirt and having it sell out, then this isn't the right business for you. This is more about getting your ideas out there and less about making the big bucks.

Then, you'll have to know that you have a market to cater to. Find out if there are people who are looking for what you have to offer. In this case know if you know people who would be interested in your designs. Try going beyond your family and friends for information. This is a great opportunity to make business connections with people who'd be interested in helping you out. Just remember to be wary of people who might look to take advantage of your ambitions.

Next, you'll need to have a theme to your designs. This isn't so to restrict your creativity but give people a way to put your ideas in context. This will fall into what your designs are and also how you market your product. Knowing who your target market is will also help creating your brand identity.

How to Start a T-Shirt Business Effectively

By Fabian Mora

These are not in any particular order of importance but they are 3 things you must know before, or right after you start. With a little research at the beginning you'll have a huge advantage on 80% of the people starting their t-shirt business.

1) Find your niche, or I like to say who your passion speaks to. With this you'll know if there's a market for your shirt and how viable it is. If you have no idea how, here are 3 steps how you can do that.

A) Create a Facebook fan page and invite people see what they say listen to their feedback.
B) Ask yourself, who would wear the shirts, why and where can I find them?
C) Search the web to see if you find similar products targeted to the same audience, if you do that's good it means there's a market and study that brand. Look at where they're advertising, call and ask for a media kit.

2) Find a good quality, inexpensive printer that has experience. Don't settle with the once that make uniforms for little league and only use illustrator with 4 color spot process. Let me give you 3 simple ways to find them.

A) Find a company whose quality of printing you like and simply call them and ask, you'll be surprise how willing they are to help.
B) Use t-shirtforums.com there you can find thousands of them. Do research on them and eliminate the once that don't pass your criteria.
C) Let me give you a tip, if you're paying more than 6.50$ (dollars) per shirt your paying too much. And I'm talking about American Apparel shirts, 10 color prints on front and back, bagged and tagged.

3) Build your website to sell and to attract your target audience. Remember youre selling a product not an idea or a vision, no matter how cool your brand is, you have to make the navigation easy and effortless. Don't get caught in the hype of the brand, make it attractive but not to the point where your sacrificing a good shopping experience for a cool extra graphic. Less is more when it comes to design, focus on the shopping experience and the potential costumer. Let me give you 3 examples.

A) Make sure people can buy your shirts from any platform. Be it an iPad, iPhone, laptop, Droid..... anything. Don't use fancy flash (moving parts on the site) because a lot of phones and devices won't read them.
B) Get a reliable shopping cart that has good customer service and accepts all different types of payment methods. Keep track of inventory don't sell something you don't have, make sure your shopping cart has that option.
C) Brand your website keep the continuity throughout all your social media platforms. Make sure you potential costumer know where he/she are the entire time throughout the entire process. In other words try to make all your pages look similar (YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Blogger, Blog) keep the continuity of the design where possible, definitely within your website.

This will not make you a successful company or promise you growth nor will it give you hope of a bright future, but it will save you time if you follow these steps. Well now you know how to start a t-shirt business the correct way, that will give you the advantage over many competitors. Create something no one has seen and be so good at it that you can't be ignored, then you'll succeed.

Wholesale T-Shirts - Why Sell Urban T-Shirts For Your Wholesale T-Shirt Business?

By Lila J. Fowloer

In the T-Shirt business the most important indicator of new trends are what young people wear. It is important to know that any design in any product is in some way a bridge to the inner youth of the artist. It is therefore logical to consider that even in the T-shirt industry art is the most important component of marketing. You will have to sell what is considered as an art masterpiece.

If the latest trend now are designs that expose the wacky and crazy side of people such as quotes and funny situations, expect that the next trend will be the urban tee. Before I dwell on it further, let me explain why it is called as such. Urban tees are those that are worn by people in the street particularly in New York. These are worn by young people who like the hip-hop genre. Urban tees are actually the silent exclamations of the youth in New York. The designs are graphic and usually show the hidden emotions go of the person wearing it.

The question then is why should you be ready to sell it once it hits the consciousness of T-Shirt enthusiasts. Here are the reasons.

1. It is the New Trend

I mentioned that in this industry it is the fashion trend that will make or break you. This is the single most important reason why urban tees should be your next target. They are what the young people are starting to wear. Hence, it is just a matter of time that other people will start to knock inside their inner youth and demand for urban tees.

2. The Range of Customers is Big

People who will use this tees will probably range form age 13 to 35. Now that is a huge age demographic that you will cater to. The best thing about this demographic is that the population of most cities in the world is considered young and falls within this age range. Now that is one big population to cater to and make money out of.

3. Everyone wants Distinctiveness

Urban tees are the expressions of emotions of the people who wear it. Now for a huge population range you cannot possibly print and design for each one. What you can do is have designs that are general in theme but are unique to an individual. Say for example a design that says Love but with a black rose in it. For some people it has no meaning but for some it has. For such a huge population to cater to hitting even half of it is profitable.

4. Pricing depends on the Design and not the Brand

You will be able to sell quality plain t-shirts that are cheap at a higher price because of the design. Yes, when you go to urban tees chances are you can give a higher price tag for the more elaborate designs than the simple ones. The best thing about this is that people will not complain about the price because the shirts themselves are work of art and any product that is borne out of an artist is considered valuable.

These are just some reasons why Urban tees are the next frontier in t-shirts. Still, it is your call if you want to venture in selling Urban tees in your Wholesale T-shirt business.

How to Start Your Own Personalized T-Shirt Business

By Ruth S. Lanham

Looking for a new way to earn some money? If you are into arts and crafts and you are actually pretty creative then why not start your own personalized t shirts business? You don't need to go all out in terms of capital as you are only starting, just try it out first to see if it will fare well. Now are you ready to get started? Here are some few tips:

Given that t-shirts will never ever go out of style, those who are interested in putting up a clothing line or who are looking for a great gift idea can never go wrong with t-shirts. You can buy plain t-shirts by the bulk for cheap - just be very discerning in terms of the quality though as you wouldn't want your customers or whoever you'll give your customized t-shirts to get turned off because of the poor quality of the actual t shirt. While scouting for plain t-shirts always make sure that the fit and the actual material used will prove to have a flattering fit on whoever's going to wear it. Plain t-shirts are a much better choice as these can be easily customized to suit your style and liking.

Start creating designs for your personalized t shirts by first sketching drafts on your drawing book, while you should experiment with the actual t-shirt, do remember that you are still starting out and you need not be wasteful with the only materials that you have. Sketch out everything first and then carefully lay out the pattern to the actual shirt. There are various ways that you can start customizing your t-shirts may it be through t shirt prints, silkscreen, embellishments, embroidery and even fabric paint. Just be creative as the possibilities are endless.

Now how to spread the word about your business? After you have designed a couple of t-shirts take good pictures of it and post it in a social networking website if you still don't have your own online store yet. Social networking websites are a great tool for your merchandise to be seen by a lot of people in an instant. You can also mention there that you also accept customization services as long as the buyer is able to give you an idea of what they really want to have done on the shirt.

Other than being a great business idea, personalized t shirts are also a very thoughtful gift to give especially this coming holiday season. Now you need not worry about ending up with just generic gifts for your friends and loved ones, just create a special design for each of your loved ones like create a pop art print of their favorite celebrity or embellished it the way you'd think they like it to be. Apart from being a special gift, it's also not an expensive one to give as long as you know where to shop for the right materials that will transform those plain t-shirts of your into lovely pieces of art.

Are you looking for the best personalized t shirts at a very low price? Visit http://www.tshirts-gifts.com today and find anything and everything you are looking for!

How To Start A T Shirt Business At Home

By Kurt McAninch

Starting a new business is both exciting and terrifying at the same time. You have the opportunity to finally run things your way. You can work as long and as hard as you want and reap all the rewards that come from that hard work and commitment. Along with the reward though comes the responsibility of all aspects of your new business. You take out the trash and write the checks and everything in between. The t-shirt design industry is exploding right now with amazing designs and talented newcomers that will shape the industry for the next several years. I have been in this industry awhile now and have seen shops open and close, seen online sites explode and implode, and watched as others tinkered with their own online shops through print on demand companies.

There is amazing opportunity right now to get involved in this highly creative and competitive field. One design, like the smiley face, can literally make you a brand name overnight and propel your company to the heights you could only dream of before. Imagine checking your website and seeing 500 orders for that one killer design and your heart races with excitement and the dollar signs fill your eyes. Wait a minute, though! You now have 500 t-shirts to print, process, and ship. It's like a dream and a nightmare all rolled in to one roller coaster of emotion. It's what you wanted, but all that work is going to be time-consuming and you still have to design the next great shirt. It's a delicate balancing act that can make you feel like you are literally walking a tight rope, but it's so worth it in the long run.

So what exactly do you need to get started at home with your new business. You can apply these same principles to a store front if you are going that route, but for the sake of this article I'm assuming you want to start small. Obviously you need a space to work. You are going to need a computer with a software program to create your designs, such as Adobe Illustrator or the free program Gimp. You will need a supply of blank shirts which you can get for around $1 to $1.25 per shirt depending upon the bulk you purchase in.

There are three main methods for printing your designs:

1. Silk Screen Printing - which is a method of burning an image with light on to a nylon screen and then applying dye ink to the shirt through the screen to arrive at your desired image. For many years this was considered the only professional way to create shirts. The start-up cost for this is in the neighborhood of $1200.

2. Heat Press with transfers - A heat press is exactly what the name implies, it is a machine with two Teflon plates that press together over a shirt to transfer an inked image from a special transfer paper, thereby leaving that image on the shirt. This is the most affordable method starting as low as a $600 investment.

3. Direct To Garment (DTG) - This is a relatively new entrance in to the t-shirt design business and is simply a printer that puts your image directly to the garment instead of going through a transfer paper. Cafe Press uses DTG printers for their shirts and the quality is great. This is the least affordable option, however, with some printers being around $25,000. You could possibly get going for under $10,000, but that's still a large investment to earn back.

Have a look at some more comparisons between these methods.

Any of these methods will give you great looking t shirts. The one I would personally recommend starting out obviously is the least expensive option with the heat press and transfer paper. There are many companies out there who have pre-designed transfers you could press on to shirts, or have them custom print transfer paper with your designs on them. Another cool cost saver is the ability to get blank transfer paper and print them with your home printer! I wouldn't recommend these for sale, but they would be great to see if your design was exactly as you wanted it before you put in a large custom order. Not only will you have to decide which method to use for your business but there is also the proper way to go about starting your business. I found a great road map to success that you should check out if you are serious about saving time and money in starting your new venture. Happy Designing!
